Maja Lava silver jewellery is made out of 925 sterling silver.
925 means that 92,5% out of 100% is pure silver.
Since silver itself is rather soft, there is an alloy made, together with copper where copper holds 7,5% and silver 92,5%. This alloy is called 925 sterling silver.
Black – Oxidized silver
Black coloured jewellery is made out of sterling silver. Due to a chemical process, the copper in the sterling silver alloy reacts and tarnishes, which makes the silver turn black.
However, this is a process that happens on a surface of the jewellery, while under that, the silver keeps it’s original silver colour.
Notice that through extensive wear, the surface layer which is oxidised can wear off, and the original silver will become visible. This will especially happen on places where there is friction.
You can always send me a piece which you want to have oxidised again and I will do it for a small charge (€5 + sending costs).
Or try doing it yourself by using egg yolks 🙂
All gold rings by Maja Lava are made of 14K Gold.
The gold is recycled or Fairtrade.
It is also possible that I use your old gold as the material, melt it and make a new piece out of it. Contact me if you would want to know more about this option (this option is only possible if you live in the Netherlands).
Gold plated jewellery is made of sterling silver with a layer of gold.
The plating is a 2 micron, a thick one that will last long.
In the description of the item it is mentioned if a piece is gold plated silver or gold.
Necklaces, pendants and earrings in my webshop are mainly gold plated (check the description of the piece). If you are not sure about gold plated or pure gold, contact me, I will gladly help you out!
Please take care of your jewellery.
Avoid contact with chemicals, perfumes, shampoos, sea or chlorine water.
When you are not wearing it, keep the jewellery out of the sun, preferably in a jewellery box.
All Maja Lava jewellery comes with a nice gift box which is perfect for storing it.
Clean the sterling silver and gold with a polishing cloth or with a soft brush under running water.
Dry well and keep dry!
And most important, wear it with joy!
